A film will be considered as a hit when the distributor recovers the investments. Suppose a producer invested ₹20 crores to make a film. Then either the producer sells the film to a distributor or shares the profit. Nowadays, the trend is to sell the movie to distributors. Movies with good star cast sold at good price. Usually, producers don’t get a share of profit or loss in such a scenario. Though the producer is always a winner.
After that, distributors bought the film right by paying ₹35 crores. And then invest another ₹15 crore on its promotion. So the cost is now ₹50 crores. Now, the distributor ‘distribute’ the film to regional distributors who, next, distribute it to theatres.
