Mahesh Ghattamaneni aka Mahesh Babu is an Indian actor, producer, media personality, and philanthropist known for his works in Telugu cinema. He is the son of famous Telugu actor, director, and producer Krishna Ghattamaneni. Mahesh also known as Prince, Superstar, Universal Star, Naani, and Navataram Superstar.
Mahesh started his films career by playing a small role as a child artist in 1979’s ‘Needa’ film. At the age of four, he appeared in eight more films as a child artist. He debuted as a lead actor in 1999’s ‘Rajakumarudu’ film, co-starring Bollywood veteran actress Preity Zinta.

Mahesh was born on 9 August 1975 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to a famous Telugu actor, director, and producer father Krishna Ghattamaneni (Krishna) and mother Indira Ghattamaneni (Indira Devi). He has also a step-mother name her Vijaya Nirmala Ghattamaneni, she is also an actress, director, and producer in Telugu industry.
Babu has an elder brother: Ramesh Babu Ghattamaneni (actor, producer), two elder sisters: Padmavathi Ghattamaneni/Padmavathi Galla and Manjula Ghattamaneni/Manjula Swaroop, and a younger sister: Priyadarshini Ghattamaneni/Priyadarshini Babu (actor Sudheer Babu’s Wife) from his blood mother Indira Devi. He has an elder half-brother: Naresh Vijaya Krishna/Vijaya Naresh (actor, politician) from stepmother Vijaya Nirmala.
Prince completed his high schooling from St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai. After that, he completed his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Loyola College in Chennai.
Debut & Success
Mahesh started his films career by playing a small role as a child artist in his elder brother Ramesh Babu’s debut film ‘Needa (1979)’, which film was directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. At the age of four, he appeared in eight more films as a child artist.
After that in 1999, Mahesh started famous South Indian director K. Raghavendra Rao’s film ‘Raja Kumarudu‘ as a full-time hero and he received Nandi- Best Male Debut Awards. Naani starred in box office successful supernatural drama film ‘Murari’ in 2001. It worked as the first breakthrough of his filmy career. After the tremendous acting in Dookudu (2011) and Business Man (2012), Mahesh emerged as the highest paid actor in South India after Rajnikanth.
This actor led so many blockbuster movies and becomes the only actor who won the maximum award among others in his time. In 2018, his film ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ was collected ₹200+ crore from the budget of ₹65 crore and it was the first Mahesh starrer film which collected this amount at the box office. Now he is one of the highest paid actors and one of the successful actors in the South Indian film industry.
On 28 January 2014, He launched his own production house G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Almost every family members of Ghattamaneni family producing films in the south industry.
Personal Life
In 2000, Mahesh Babu met Namrata Shirodkar on the sets of B. Gopal‘s ‘Vamsi’. That was the debut Telugu film of Namrata. After being in a relationship for four years, they decided to get married on February 10, 2005. Namrata Shirodkar (51) is almost four years older than Mahesh (47).
Together they have a son: Gautham Ghattamaneni (born on 2006) and a daughter: Sitara Ghattamaneni (born on 2012). His son Gautham debut his film career in Mahesh Babu starrer 2014’s action film ‘1: Nenokkadine‘. Gautham was seen playing the younger version of his father Mahesh character.
