In Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) and Taal (1999) movie, he worked as a background dancer while he was 16 years old. Then he also worked in several TV commercials including Pepsi, Kit Kat, Close-up.
Shahid made his debut in 2003 with a leading role in a romantic film Ishq Vishk. He earned a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for this film which was his first debut film. This film was a semi-hit, it collects ₹12.2 crore from the budget of ₹5 crore. After that Shahid starred in several movies did not do good at the box office. 2006 was the golden year for Shahid.
